Pa held for QC baby’s death due to beatings

A 36-year-old man was charged with parricide for hitting his infant son repeatedly and allegedly causing the latter’s death on Sunday at their house in a slum area in Barangay Holy Spirit, Quezon City.

Nazarenio Mendiola underwent inquest proceedings on Tuesday for the death of his third child, Tylor Jerick, from traumatic head injuries. The victim was a year and 2 months old.

Village officials arrested Mendiola Monday morning after being alerted by neighbors who had learned about the abuses.

Tylor was discovered motionless in his crib around 4:15 p.m. on Sunday, according to PO3 Roldan Cornejo of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit.

The child was first brought to a clinic and later to East Avenue Medical Center, where he was declared dead on arrival.

During the investigation, the suspect’s neighbor, George Romero, recalled that he heard the child crying loudly around 4:15 p.m. on Saturday, prompting him to take a peek into Mendiola’s house.

He then saw the suspect holding up the baby by his feet and repeatedly beating him, Romero said.

The child’s 28-year-old mother, Gerald Loraine Perez, confirmed what Romero had told investigators.

She said she tried to stop Mendiola from hitting Tylor but her live-in partner also punched her.

Mendiola is currently jobless and worked previously as a construction worker. The couple have lived together for eight years and have four children.
