AN 82-YEAR-OLD male passenger died Monday while on a 14-hour flight from Canada to Manila.
In a report, the Manila International Airport Authority said that Macario Gonzales was on a Philippine Airlines flight from Vancouver when he complained of back pain seven hours into the trip.
To ease the pain, he asked a flight attendant for a hot compress to place against his back.
Four hours later, members of the flight crew noticed Gonzales had fallen unconscious and was unresponsive. Gonzales’ wife, who was with him, tried to wake him but failed.
A doctor on the flight attempted to revive the passenger but pronounced him dead 30 minutes later.
Gonzales’ death was reported to the airline’s station control 13 minutes before the plane was to land at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport’s Terminal 2.
After the aircraft landed at 4:47 a.m., the body was brought to the airport clinic while arrangements were made by the passenger’s family.
