Tagle elected to synod council

Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle was again elected to the 15-member council of cardinals and bishops tasked to prepare for the next synod, according to the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).

The synod of bishops is an advisory body of the Pope, whose members are elected by bishops from around the world.

Apart from the 15 members, the council is also composed of a permanent secretary general and undersecretary.

According to the CBCP News, the official news service of the CBCP, 12 members of the ordinary council of the Synod of Bishops—three from each continent with Asia and Oceana counted as one—were elected by the synod father at the end of the recent assembly at the Vatican.

The three named by Pope Francis himself are Chaldean Catholic Patriarch Louis Sako of Baghdad, Archbishop Carlos Osoro of Madrid and Archbishop Sergio Da Rocha of Brasilia, Brazil.
