AS IF the morning traffic jam was not enough, commuters going home Monday night from work started walking again as the roads were off-limits to public transport to give way to arriving delegates of the Asia-Pacific Economic summit.
Hundreds of commuters were seen walking from Coastal Mall to the south area as there were no public transportation available to bring them home.
Desperate to get home, some people even tried flagging private cars hoping they could hitch a ride.
An earlier statement from Johnny Yu, chief of Manila’s anti-disaster unit, states that the decision to ban pedestrians and motorists from Roxas Boulevard was prompted by the Paris terror attacks that claimed hundreds of lives.
“Twenty-one world leaders are arriving in the country. We have to protect them. It would be a national embarrassment if something bad happens to them,” he said.
