LAOAG CITY—A son of Ilocos Norte Rep. Rodolfo Fariñas died following a motorcycle crash in Bacarra town on Sunday morning, police said.
Rodolfo Fariñas Jr., 20, was killed when he was thrown off his BMW motorcycle which hit a concrete barrier along the national highway in Barangay Pasiocan at 5:44 a.m.
Police, citing witness accounts, said Fariñas was headed south toward Laoag City when he lost control of the motorcycle which burst into flames on impact.
He died while being rushed to the Gov. Roque B. Ablan Sr. Memorial Hospital in this city.
The younger Fariñas served as president of the Sangguniang Kabataan federation in Ilocos Norte. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and known here for his fondness for off-road vehicles.
The Fariñas family as of Sunday afternoon had not issued a statement on his death.
On her Facebook page, his sister, Ria Christina Fariñas, changed her profile and cover photos to that of her brother’s.
Messages of sympathy and condolences to the family were posted on the page.
Ria and Rodolfo Jr. were among Representative Fariñas’ six children with his late wife, the actress Maria Teresa Carlson. Leilanie Adriano, Inquirer Northern Luzon
