The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday suspended permits to carry firearms in Metro Manila from November 16 to 20 due to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) Summit.

“All Permit[s] To Carry Firearms Outside of Residence (PTCFOR) are hereby temporarily suspended in Metro Manila from November 16 to 20, 2015,” a memorandum signed by PNP Chief Director General Ricardo Marquez said.

The memorandum said only the PNP, the Armed Forces of the Philippines and other law enforcement agencies “performing official duties and in agency-prescribed uniforms” will be allowed to carry firearms.

More than a dozen world leaders are expected to arrive in Manila as the Philippines will host the 2015 Apec economic leaders’ summit. RAM
