06:55 AM May 20, 2011

THE shredding operation of the biodegradable garbage at the Inayawan landfill had to temporarily stop for inspection to assure the safety of other scavengers after an accident last Tuesday.

Inayawan landfill manager Randy Navarro said the four shredders, three for the biodegradable and one for plastic garbage, had to be inspected by SUKI contractor after 36-year-old scavenger Joselito Nuñez injured his right arm and leg when he tried to clean a shredder.

“Para na pod sa safety sa uban ba, amo na lang sa gihunong para sa inspection,” Navarro said.

For the mean tine, the garbage will be dumped at the landfill area until the inspection is done, Navarro added.

Navarro said he suspected the accident was caused by an electrical circuit from the adjacent machine since the shredder Nuñez cleaned was swithched off. /Correspondent Fatrick R. Tabada
