Motorcycle rider killed in Quezon accident

LUCENA CITY – A motorcycle rider died on the spot after his vehicle collided head on with a cargo truck along the Maharlika Highway in Sariaya, Quezon, at dawn Sunday.

The victim, John Erick Merano, 26, was traveling along Barangay Concepcion Uno heading for Sariaya town proper aboard a Kawasaki motorcycle (2174 WP) at about 2 a.m. when he rammed into an oncoming Mitsubishi wing van (GNR 357), said Superintendent Harold Depositar, Sariaya police station chief.

Depositar, in a phone interview, said the victim sustained multiple body and head injuries and died on the spot. He was not wearing a helmet, he added.

The truck driver, identified as Sanny de la Cruz, was detained at the Sariaya police jail pending the filing of charges, added Depositar.

Meanwhile, four vehicles got involved in another road accident in Lucena City on Saturday afternoon.

Superintendent Joel de Mesa, Lucena police chief, said an Isuzu truck driven by one Kimmy Mecoy lost its brakes while traversing the diversion road in Barangay Domoit at 3:45 p.m. and hit a passenger jeepney and two cars before it came to a stop.

No one was reported injured in the accident.
