DAVAO CITY—A Philippine Air Force (PAF) helicopter crashlanded while airlifting military casualties in Malapatan town in Sarangani province, on Saturday morning.
“The nine personnel—pilots, crew and soldiers—aboard the helicopter suffered slight injuries and were secured,” Capt. Alberto Caber, Eastern Mindanao Command spokesperson, said.
Caber said the UH-1D chopper was flying over Sitio Lamsalo in Upper Suyan when it was buffeted by strong wind at around 9:40 a.m.
He said the chopper was evacuating wounded soldiers from the 73rd Infantry Battalion who had earlier clashed with communist rebels.
He said other helicopters from the PAF’s Tactical Operations Group XI based here had been deployed to help in evacuation and rescue operations.
