A 14-year-old biker died after he was hit by a trailer truck on Friday night at the intersection of C-3, North Bay Boulevard South in Navotas City.
Mark Anthony Edio, 14, a grade eight student of Kaunlaran High School, was rushed to the Navotas City Hospital.
He was transferred to the Tondo Medical Center but was later pronounced dead.
Edio was on his way to a church activity when the accident happened.
Case investigator PO3 Tristan de Lara said Edio was crossing the highway when he was hit by a trailer truck driven by Avelino Bansagale, 53, resident of Caingin, San Rafael, Bulacan.
De Lara said Bansagale was heading east on C-3 road. After stopping, the truck moved and pulled out into the corner of the intersection, striking Edio’s bicycle coming from H. Lopez St. going to North roadway.
Bansagale is currently detained at Navotas Community Precinct Station detention cell.
He faces charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, De Lara said.
Mercita Edio said his son, a devout follower of the Nazareno, told him he would be going out with his five friends to assist and meet about their next church activity around 7 p.m. Friday.
She did not know, however, that his son would cross the “dangerous” highway, she said.
Witnesses told De Lara that the younger Edio was seen driving with five other companions who were also riding bicycles.
The suspect has not yet communicated with the victim’s family regarding the damages, she said.
