All roads leading to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) will remain open to motorists during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit later this month.
This was clarified by the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) following a meeting with partner airlines, ground handlers, government agencies operating there, and representatives of the airports in Clark and Cebu.
According to the MIAA, passengers with flights from Nov. 16 to Nov. 20 will be free to use Aurora Boulevard coming from Edsa, Andrews Avenue and the South Luzon Expressway.
The MIAA said there would be no special transportation system for travelers going to Naia since it will still be accessible under the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s current traffic plan.
The MMDA said so far only Roxas Boulevard—particularly the segment from Katigbak Drive to Naia Road—will be closed from Nov. 16 to 20.
The MIAA said heads of state would start arriving Nov. 16 but most of them will arrive on Nov. 17. Their departures are scheduled on Nov. 19 and 20.
According to the MIAA, commercial flights will still proceed from Nov. 16 to 20 but will be subject to flight disruptions such as delays, diversions, and even cancellations.
“Periodic runway closures will be in place as the aircraft of the heads of state arrive and leave Manila. As such, passengers are advised to fly ahead or after the Apec Summit,” the MIAA said.
