LUCENA CITY—Four persons died and three others were injured in two separate road accidents in Quezon province on Thursday evening, police reported Friday.
In Lucena City, a tricycle was rear-ended by a Bicol-bound Philtranco bus (ABG 7601) while traveling along the diversion road in Barangay (village) Silangang Mayao around 11 p.m.
Superintendent Joel de Mesa, Lucena police chief, identified the fatalities as Joan Roxas and an elderly woman only known as “Glo,” both passengers of the ill-fated tricycle. Both were declared dead on arrival at the MMG Hospital in this city.
The tricycle driver, Ariel Cabrera, and two other passengers, Geremias Roa and Gen Manasterial, sustained multiple body injuries and were confined at the MMG Hospital.
The bus driver, identified as Romeo Manrique, escaped after the accident and left the bus at the crime scene. The bus was impounded at the police station.
“The representative of the bus company was attending to the needs of the victims,” De Mesa said in a phone interview.
Meanwhile, in Candelaria town, two vehicles—a Kia Rio sedan (WRE 726) and a DLTBCO passenger bus (AQA 6766)—collided head-on and left two persons dead.
PO3 Manuel Aklan, Candelaria policeman on desk duty, said the collision happened along the by-pass road in Barangay Pahinga Norte around 6:50 p.m.
Aklan said in a phone interview that the car passenger, Clemente Kapalaran, was declared dead on arrival at the Peter Paul Medical Center in Candelaria while its driver, Alberto Cantos, died while undergoing treatment also in the same hospital.
The bus driver, Prospero Crispino, was detained at the town police jail. RAM
