Biado routs Cuartero to win BSCP 8-ball event
WORLD TEN-BALL semifinalist Carlo “Cool” Biado defeated Allan “Surigao” Cuartero, 9-3, in the finals to rule the 8-ball event of the BSCP National Pool Championship yesterday at the Star Billiards Center in Grace Village, Quezon City.
With the victory, Biado, a member of the star-studded Perry Mariano’s Bugsy Promotions, took the champion’s purse of P50,000.
“Suwerte lamang kasi naka una agad ako kay Allan (Cuartero),” said the La Union native Biado, who raced a 5-3 lead and never looked back for the victory.
Cuartero received the runner-up prize of P20,000.
On the road to the finals, Biado defeated fellow Bugsy Promotions bet current world no.1 and world 8-ball champion Dennis “Robocop” Orcollo, 8-5, last Wednesday while Cuartero edged Ricky “Bai” Zerna, 8-7, in the other semifinal affair
Last Saturday, Biado, a former caddie, took down former national junior champion Jerico Banares, 9-4, in the 9-ball event for his second finals stint in two of the three disciplines (8-ball, 9-ball and 10-ball event) being disputed in the 2011 BSCP National Pool Championship.
Article continues after this advertisementBiado goes up against Orcollo for the 9-ball finals. Orcollo who hails from Bislig, Surigao del Sur edged another Bugsy bet and 2007 World Pool finalist Roberto “Pinoy Superman” Gomez, 9-8, in another 9-ball semifinal encounter.
After the conclusion of 8-ball, 9-ball and 10-ball event, the over-all champion (based in the performance of the three disciplines) will go home with the top prize of P200,000 plus the title of 2011 BSCP National Pool Championship ruler. /Correspondent Marlon Bernardino
