New mother falls to her death from 16th-floor condo

KUALA LUMPUR—A new mother fell 16-floors to her death at her Bangsar South condominium, just 10-days after she gave birth to her first child.

Police said it is believed the 30-year-old accountant handed over her crying child over to her maid for feeding at about 10 a.m. Saturday, and fell from the balcony of her home while the maid and child were in another room.

She was found in a pool of blood by security guards, on the ground floor. She was declared dead at the scene. Police have ruled the incident a sudden death.

Brickfields OCPD Asst .Comm. Sharul Mansor said the maid testified as having seen her employer watching television in the living room and had called her to take her child to be fed.

The woman, whose name is being withheld, was said to have not been able to produce milk and breastfeed her child.

“The maid took the baby into another room and gave it milk. When she came back out to give the baby back to the mother, the maid could not find her anywhere in the house.

“She later met security who told her a woman had fallen from the building. The maid identified the deceased woman as her employer,” ACP Sharul said.

He said the maid had only been working there for a week, while the deceased and her husband had lived at the condominium for about two-years.

Her salesman husband was at a family home in Petaling Jaya during the time of the incident. ACP Sharul said the deceased’s mother had also just visited her and the new baby a day before the tragedy.

“According to the husband, his wife had been under stress because she could not breastfeed her baby and had also complained about being bored with no work to do around the house,” he said.

Police found no element of foul play in the case. Her body was taken to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) for a postmortem.

At the mortuary, the family of the deceased requested for privacy.
