FORMER President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo went to the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City early Wednesday to undergo a medical checkup after the Sandiganbayan granted her a two-day furlough.
A team of policemen escorted Arroyo out of the Veterans Memorial Medical Center, where she is being detained on plunder charges, at about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. She was accompanied by her husband, Mike Arroyo.
Arroyo, who is now a Pampanga congresswoman, will undergo a checkup after complaining of numbness in her left arm. She will stay overnight from 9 a.m. of Oct. 21 to 4 p.m. of Oct. 22 as ordered by the antigraft court.
Among the tests being recommended for Arroyo are a PET scan and tumor marker tests such as alpha feto protein for the liver, varcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) for the breast and pancreas and CA 125 calcitonin for the medullary thyroid.
Arroyo’s lawyers said that the VMMC has no equipment for the tests. Julliane Love de Jesus, Inquirer.net
