NATIONAL Archives Day is observed every Oct. 21 of the year by virtue of Proclamation No. 660 signed on Sept. 27, 1995, by then President Fidel Ramos. The Records Management and Archives Office (RMAO), the predecessor of the National Archives, was formed in accordance with the Treaty of Paris of 1898. On Oct. 21, 1901, the Philippine Commission created the Bureau of Archives. On March 15, 1999, the RMAO was transferred to the National Commission for Culture and the Arts. On May 21, 2007, the National Archives of the Philippines was established. Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
