Cebu Pac cancels 260 flights during APEC summit in November

Cebu Pacific-Tiger Air or CEBGO also cancels 42 flights during APEC
/ 06:44 PM October 20, 2015

MANILA, Philippines — (UPDATED) The Cebu Pacific Air (CEB) announced on Tuesday the cancellation of at least 260 flights, 26 of them to and from international destinations, to give way to the arrivals for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in November.

According to CEB, the grounding of flights during the APEC Summit week, from November 16 to November 20, is in anticipation of the periodic temporary runway closures at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) previously announced periods of temporary runway closure for the summit.

Leaders of APEC-member states are expected to take part in the summit on November 18 and 19 and the closure of the runway is part of airport protocol for the arrival and departure from the NAIA of the heads of state.

In a statement, the CEB apologized to passengers who will be affected by the flight cancellations, saying, “We hope for our guests’ understanding as there may be flight schedule changes throughout the duration of the APEC Meeting in Manila. CEB will provide updates as soon as they are available.”

The airline also said that it has been arranging the re-accommodation of affected flyers who could opt to rebook their flights within 30 days from the original departure schedule with no penalty or get a full refund.

CEB further reminded other passengers, whose flights would continue, to anticipate heavy traffic in the surrounding areas of the NAIA terminals 3 and 4 and to set out earlier for the airport.
