British woman found dead at Istanbul airport

ANKARA, Turkey — Turkey’s state-run news agency says a British woman has been found dead at Istanbul’s main airport.

Anadolu Agency identified the woman as Jacqueline Anne Sutton and said she took her own life Sunday inside a washroom at Ataturk Airport after missing a connecting flight from Istanbul to Irbil, Iraq.

Anadolu said Sutton became upset because she didn’t have money to buy a new ticket to Iraq. It did not cite a source for the report. The Associated Press could not immediately confirm the report.

British media reports said Sutton, 50, was a journalist and student, who held various positions over the years with humanitarian organizations and the United Nations.
