Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. described his family on Monday as “exceptional,” reiterating that he was lucky he was born a Marcos.

Marcos, who is running for vice president in 2016, made the remark when asked in an interview over ABS-CBN’s morning show, Umagang Kay Ganda, if he considered his family name an asset, and not a liability.

“Napakalaking swerte ko na ako’y pinanganak na Marcos. Sinasabi ito sa lahat ng kilala ko na ako na yata ang pinakaswerteng tao dahil napanganak ako na Marcos,” he said.

(I’m lucky that I was born a Marcos . I tell everyone I know that I am the luckiest person because I was born a Marcos.)

“Exceptional naman talaga ang aking naging pamilya. Marami akong naranasan, marami akong nakita na kung hindi ako anak ng tatay ko at nanay ko, hindi ko nakita , hindi ko naranasan,” the senator added.

(My family is really exceptional. I experienced and saw a lot of things that I should not have experienced or seen had I not been a child of my father and mother)

Marcos is the son of late strongman Ferdinand Marcos and the former First Lady and now-Ilocos Sur Representative Imelda Marcos.

While he said he was ready to discuss with critics his being a Marcos, the senator said there were other issues that needed to be prioritized as these affect the lives of many people.

Asked about his being in a tandem with Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago, Marcos said they were still discussing their plans since they were still ‘courting” each other.

Santiago has already announced that Sen. Marcos was her running mate in 2016 but the latter had yet to confirm this.

So when asked if he and Santiago would campaign together, Marcos said: “Wala pa, yun ang pinag uusapan namin ngayon kung ano yung plano, kung paano ang gagawing arrangement. Nagliligawan pa kami.”

(Not yet. We are still making plans about our arrangement. We are still courting each other.)
