NDRRMC calls for forced evacuation in coastal areas in Aurora, nearby provinces

The National Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRMMC) has urged the implementation of forced evacuation in coastal areas in the provinces of Aurora, Quirino, Isabela and Cagayan Saturday night.

In a press conference, NDRRMC Dir. Alexander Pama said he already coordinated with the local government to implement forced evacuation among its residents due to the threat of Typhoon Lando.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Saturday raised public storm signal no. 4 over Aurora province.

Public storm signal no. 3 was raised over the provinces of Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Nueva Ecija, Ifugao and Northern Quezon including Polillo Island.

Cagayan including Calayan and Babuyan group of Islands, Benguet, Mt. Province, Abra, Kalinga, Apayao, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, rest of Quezon, Camarines Norte and Metro Manila were placed under signal no. 2.

In its 5 p.m. bulletin, the state weather bureau, aid Lando was last spotted at 230 kilometers East of Baler, Aurora. It packed maximum sustained winds of 175 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 210 kph.

The weather bureau said Lando was moving slowly at 10 kph westward, adding that heavy to intense rains would be experienced within the 650 km diameter of the typhoon.
Lando is expected to make landfall over Aurora area by Sunday morning.

Pagasa warned that storm surges may reach a maximum of three meters in Aurora and nearby provinces. Wave height in open sea may reach up to 14 meters or higher. CDG
