Marawi City police chief killed in ambush

ILIGAN CITY – Unidentified gunmen ambushed and killed the police chief of Marawi City on Saturday.

Senior Supt. Seigfred Ramos, Lanao del Sur police director, said Senior Insp. Abner Santos was traveling along Sarimanok area when fired upon around 2:20 p.m.

He said Santos was driving his Mitsubishi Montero and was heading back to the Marawi City police office after attending a command conference at the provincial police office, also in Marawi City.

Ramos said the identities and motive of the suspects were still being ascertained.

Santos’ body, meanwhile, had already been brought to his hometown of Pagadian City, he said. Richel Umel, Inquirer Mindanao/CDG
