Latasa to run for Davao Sur governor vs Cagas
DIGOS CITY, Davao del Sur, Philippines — Former vice governor Arsenio Latasa formalized his candidacy for Davao del Sur governor on Friday.
Latasa was accompanied by his running mate, incumbent vice governor Aileen Almendras, Davao del Sur first district congressional bet Joel Ray Lopez, Davao del Sur Gov. Claude Bautista, Digos City Mayor Joseph Peñas of the Liberal Party, and the Nationalist People’s Coalition candidates for the provincial board.
Latasa’s closest rival in the race is former governor Douglas Cagas, who had filed a certificate of candidacy on Thursday via proxy.
Cagas has been in jail since October last year after being linked with the 2010 murder of journalist Nestor Bedolido.
Bautista will run for governor of the newly formed Davao Oriental province. SFM
