Duterte to seek re-election, not presidency, says aide

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is not running for president, his executive assistant, Christopher “Bong” Go told the Inquirer.

In a text message, Go replied “opo (yes),” when asked about reports that the mayor was not running for president but would instead seek reelection.

The confirmation came amid reports that the mayor was to file his certificate of candidacy for president Thursday or Friday. A lot of his supporters have also gathered at the Commission on Elections’ office in Intramuros, waiting for him to file his COC.

Several Duterte supporters have also shaved their heads, following the lead of Duterte’s daughter, Sara.
