Budget Secretary Florencio “Butch” Abad on Tuesday congratulated Commission on Audit Commissioner Heidi Mendoza on her appointment as head of the United Nation’s internal watchdog body.
“Our heartiest congratulations to COA Commissioner Heidi Mendoza on her appointment as the new Undersecretary-General for Internal Services of the United Nations,” Abad said in a statement.
“It was with great pleasure to hear that she will now head the UN internal oversight body. The recognition and responsibility of the position is much deserved by this courageous woman who has served the Philippine government for more than two decades with excellence and great heart,” he added.
Mendoza’s appointment was announced on Tuesday by UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon.
She will serve as UN’s undersecretary general for internal oversight services for five years, replacing Carmen Lapointe of Canada.
“We are proud of this accomplishment by Commissioner Mendoza and wish her continued success in this new chapter in her career,” Abad said.
The budget official said the “United Nations system is lucky to have a new undersecretary with firm moral principles and a great heart dedicated to fight for the core value of accountability in organizations.” Nestor Corrales/RC
