Escudero: Bicolanos in VP race ‘a source of pride’

Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero on Tuesday welcomed his fellow aspirants from the Bicol region to the vice presidential race, saying it was a “source of pride” for the people there.

“I am glad that a lot of Bicolanos and Bicolanas are being considered for various positions in government—whether appointive or elective posts,” he said in a statement.

Escudero hails from Sorsogon.

On Monday, Camarines Sur Representative Leni Robredo was officially announced as the administration’s vice presidential bet.

Also on the same day, Sen. Gringo Honasan expressed the possibility that he might be the running mate of Vice President Jejomar Binay for United Nationalist Alliance (UNA).

Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV, who traces his roots from Albay, announced over the weekend his intention to run for vice president.

“This is a source of pride for the people of Bicol,” Escudero said.

Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., who hails from Ilocos region, also announced on Monday that he will run for vice president.

“With Sen. Bongbong Marcos joining the list of those seeking higher office, I am optimistic that discussions in issues that matter most to Filipinos will be vibrant and robust,” Escudero said.

“This campaign season should afford the people the opportunity to scrutinize the platform of each candidate and guide them in choosing what and who is best for our country. I wish him well,” he added.

Another vice presidential hopeful, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, who is from Taguig City, also announced his bid last week in Davao City. JE
