Police asset killed in Dumaguete

DUMAGUETE CITY—A former jail guard turned police asset was killed while his companion was wounded on Friday after they were shot by two men riding a motorcycle in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.

Harris Deguilo Alivio, 39, and a resident of Sibulan town in Negros Oriental, died of five gunshot wounds an hour after he was brought to the hospital.

Alivio was a jail guard who was dismissed for using prohibited drugs. He later became an asset of the police’s special operations group.

Initial police investigation showed that Alivio arrived at the housing site in Barangay Cadawinonan, Dumaguete, to meet someone identified only as Tata.

Upon arrival, he asked Rico Sapio to fix the headlight of his motorcycle.

While Alivio, Tata and Sapio were talking with Crisanto Cadayday, Sapio’s assistant, two men arrived on board a motorcycle that had no plate number.

One of the two men fired at Alivio. Sapio’s left hand was hit with a stray bullet.

Alivio was the third police asset killed by suspects believed to be hit men of a group involved in the sale and distribution of illegal drugs in the city.
