NBI rescues abducted Indian man in Laguna

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has rescued an Indian national abducted by a kidnap-for-ransom syndicate operating in Cavite.

NBI Director Virgilio Mendez said businessman Jujhar Singh was rescued by elements of NBI-National Capital Region in Cabuyao, Laguna.

NBI-NCR chief Max Salvador identified the arrested kidnappers as Zahr-Ahmed Chaudry, a Pakistani national, and brother-in-law Jimmy Cortez from General Trias, Cavite.

Their two cohorts, Joshi Tarun and Pradeep Kumar Sharma, both Indian nationals, were arrested in Manila.

Salvador said Singh was abducted last Sept. 25 along Edison Street in Makati City.

Investigation showed that the victim was taken onboard a white van with plate number AAP 1472.

The family of the victim received a call asking for P20-million in exchange for Singh’s freedom.

The NBI also confiscated from the suspects two firearms, a mobile phone, an SUV and other documents.

The suspects will undergo inquest proceedings, after which they will be charged for kidnapping for ransom and illegal possession of firearms. Tetch Torres-Tupas/RC
