The camp of Vice President Jejomar Binay on Wednesday told Senator Antonio Trillanes IV that resorting to lying and character assasination will not help in his aspiration as his successor.

In a statement, Binay spokesperson Atty. Rico Quicho said that they are saddened that Trillanes “needs to resort to attacking the vice president for media mileage.”

“Nakalulungkot na hanggang ngayon, pagsisinungaling at paninira kay Vice President Binay pati na sa iba’t ibang personalidad at institusyon ang ginagawa ni Sen. Trillanes para mapansin sa media,” Quicho said.

Quicho said that in the duration of the year-long Senate Blue Ribbon sub-committee hearings, the senator has failed to present substantial evidence to support his allegations of the vice president’s reported corrupt practices.

“Sa mahigit na isang taong imbestigasyon, puro salita lamang si Sen. Trillanes at wala naman maipakitang ebidensiya na susuporta sa kaniyang mga bintang (In the more than one year of investigation, Sen. Trillanes has offered nothing but his words. He has no evidence to back his allegations)…Sen Trillanes’ style of discrediting other individuals without proof will not help him in his candidacy,” he said.

Trillanes had earlier said that he was “100 percent” sure of running for vice president in 2016.

Instead of focusing on Binay, Trillanes should be held accountable for his alleged misuse of his priority development assistance fund (PDAF) and disbursement acceleration program (DAP), and his many consultants, the lawyer added.

Trillanes has earlier expressed his intention to run for vice president in next year’s polls.

The staunch Binay critic said during the 24th hearing of the Senate committee next week that he will bare a new anomaly which will expose how Binay allegedly stolen and stashed away billions of pesos using dummies.

“Marami kasi silang kalokohang ginawa doon sa Makati kaya nahihirapan tayo. Next week ipapakita nating kung gaano kakurakot si VP Binay,” Trillanes said on Tuesday.
