Aquino, Roxas, LP finalizing line up for 2016

Roxas empowered by LP to choose VP, senatorial bets

President Benigno Aquino III, Liberal Party standard-bearer Mar Roxas and hundreds of members of the ruling party gathered at a closed-door meeting on Wednesday morning to finalize its line-up in the 2016 elections.

The party is set to formally announce its presidential, vice presidential and senatorial candidates on October 5, Monday.

Aquino and Roxas are meeting at the LP headquarters in Balay, Cubao, Quezon City, with party members who are part of the LP’s National Executive Council (Neco) in compliance with the Section 51 of the party’s constitution.

Section 51 says the Neco is responsible for choosing the party’s candidates subject to the approval of the “National Directorate.”

The LP constitution defined the directorate as a body composed of delegates elected from party chapters nationwide.

The meeting is also in compliance with the guidelines for holding political party conventions set by the Commission on Elections.

Present in the gathering were former presidential adviser for food security Francis Pangilinan, Energy Secretary Jericho Petilla, Senator Franklin Drilon, Ralph Recto, Bam Aquino, TG Guingona, and Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista.

The LP will field Roxas as its presidential bet in the 2016 elections while its candidate for vice president has yet to be named.

However, Drilon earlier hinted that Camarines Sur Representative Leni Robredo would run with Roxas.  Julliane Love de Jesus
