Even the hospital catering to policemen and their dependents has reported an increase in the number of dengue cases admitted to the facility in the past months.
In a press briefing at the Philippine National Police (PNP) headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City, on Tuesday, officials of the PNP General Hospital officials said that in the past two months, they have seen a roughly 200-percent increase in the number of dengue patients compared to the same period last year.
Records from the hospital showed that in August, the hospital admitted 15 dengue patients compared to only five during the same month in 2014. It added that for this month, there were 25 cases of dengue compared to only eight in September last year.
Senior Supt. Arnulfo Billote, head of the PNP General Hospital, clarified that the patients—mostly Metro policemen’s children aged 3 to 14 years old—contracted the disease outside Camp Crame.
The patients handled so far by the hospital come from different areas all over the metropolis so doctors do not see any clustering of dengue cases.–Jaymee T. Gamil
