Aquino: I’m a consensus builder, allergic to dictatorship

IF President Benigno Aquino III will describe himself as a leader, it would be someone who values unanimity and hates telling people what they should or should not do.

“I’m a consensus builder. I have allergy to being dictatorial,” Aquino said in an interview with ABS-CBN News Channel.

Less than a year before his six-year term ends, Aquino on Tuesday described himself as someone who was not inclined to “micromanagement.”

“I don’t micromanage. I go into details when I’m not satisfied,” Aquino said.

The President said he was particularly proud of the change in public attitude, which had supposedly progressed from apathy.

“People were so apathetic. The ultimate ambition then was how to get out of the country. Now we have everybody’s inputs,” Aquino said.

“The legitimate gripes are indicative that they do believe that the government can effect positive changes,” he added.

Asked if he was happy that his term will end very soon, Aquino said he would be lying if he said no.

But despite being initially reluctant to run for president, Aquino maintained that it has been an honor to serve the Filipino people.

“I’ve said several times, it’s really an honor to serve the people. I have supreme confidence in the people behind me,” Aquino said. Yuji Vincent Gonzales
