‘Put Mamasapano issue to rest,’  say majority of INQUIRER.net readers

AS President Benigno Aquino III debunked the “alternative versions” of the Mamasapano debacle, majority of INQUIRER.net readers think that issues surrounding the botched police operation which caused the death of 44 elite police commandos should be finally put to rest.

In an online poll conducted by INQUIRER.net, 56.32 percent of respondents or equivalent to 3,919 out of 6,958 readers answered “I don’t care; let’s put the issue to rest” when asked if there was an “alternative truth” to Mamasapano.

After revealing in a multimedia forum with the Inquirer that there were “alternative versions” of the bloody clash, Aquino himself on Thursday debunked speculation that the Special Action Force (SAF) did not kill international terrorist Zulkifi bin Hir alias Marwan.

Echoing Aquino, 33.1 percent of respondents (2,303 votes) said it was clear that the SAF killed Marwan.

Meanwhile, 6.02 percent or 419 voters said “maybe, because the reports seem incomplete.”

Only 4.56 percent (317) believed that there was indeed an alternative version of the incident, echoing the statement of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front that Marwan could have been executed by his aides before the SAF commandos arrived at his hideout.

But in a press conference in Malacañang, Aquino showed photos of a bloodied Marwan with a SAF trooper holding the slain terrorist’s left hand, about to cut his finger off.

“Ibig sabihin din po: Lahat ng iba pang salaysay ukol sa sinasabing alternatibong naratibo ay wala nang basehan, at wala na ring saysay,” Aquino said. Yuji Vincent Gonzales
