LEGAZPI CITY—Albay Gov. Joey Salceda has raised concern over the possibility of Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo running for vice president with Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero having announced his vice presidential bid in tandem with presidential aspirant Sen. Grace Poe.
Salceda, on a Facebook post Thursday, said it would not be good for Escudero and Robredo to fight against each other for the same national post since they are both Bicolanos.
Escudero, who is from Sorsogon, will run alongside Poe as independent candidates.
Salceda and Robredo both belong to the ruling Liberal Party. The party has shortlisted Robredo as a possible runningmate of its standard bearer, Mar Roxas.
But Salceda, who heads Roxas’ campaign team in Bicol, on his Facebook post, said:
“Chiz runs for VP of Grace. That trumps Leni since it is not good for a Bicolano to fight another Bicolano unless there it involves game-changing reasons. Definitely, whether you like it or not, Bicolanos will vote for another Bicolano. Non-Bicolano candidates can only mitigate the impact.” Edra Benedicto/RAM
