2-hour power interruption to hit 4 north Luzon provinces
CITY OF CAUAYAN, Philippines–The provinces of Isabela, Cagayan, Apayao and Kalinga will experience a two-hour power interruption on Thursday (Sept. 17) as the SN Aboitiz Magat Hydro Electric Power Plant in Ramon, Isabela, tests its facilities.
An advisory from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines said power supply will be cut in the franchise areas of the Isabela Electric Cooperative (Iselco) I, Cagayan Electric Cooperative (Cagelco) I and II, and Kalinga-Apayao Electric Cooperative (Kaelco) from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m.
“The [black start service] test will validate the capability of the [Magat] hydropower plant to start from complete shutdown without the assistance from external power source coming from the grid,” the advisory said.
“The provision of black start service will enable NGCP’s area control center to immediately restore power supply in morthern
Luzon sub-grid during emergency situations,” it added. TVJ
