Malacanang on Tuesday confirmed that President Benigno Aquino III has accepted Secretary Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan’s resignation from his Cabinet.

The Presidential Assistant for Food Security and Agricultural Modernization told INQUIRER.net earlier that he had submitted his resignation. He declined to say whether it had to do with planning to run in the 2016 elections.

“The resignation of Presidential Assistant for Food Security and Agricultural Modernization (OPAFSAM) Secretary Francis Pangilinan has been accepted by the President effective 30 September 2015,” Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said, citing the Office of the Executive Secretary.

“The President expressed his sincerest appreciation to Secretary Pangilinan for his contribution to the government during his stint as PAFSAM and wished him the best in his future endeavors,” Coloma added. Kristine Angeli Sabillo, INQUIRER.net
