A woman died while two men were still in the hospital after they were shot Tuesday evening along Katipunan Avenue, Barangay White Plains, Quezon City, a police official said.

The suspect, identified as Jose Maria Abaya, is the son of the late Police Constabulary General Antonio Abaya and related to former Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Narciso Abaya, according to Chief Insp. Jeffrey Bilaro, public information officer of the Quezon City Police District.

The suspect has surrendered with his gun and has been placed in the custody of the QCPD Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit, Bilaro said.

The victims, who have not been identified, were onboard a passenger van with plate number TWJ 722 6:50 p.m. when the van conked out in front of a retail store where the suspect had parked his motorcycle. The suspect then shot at the van.

The victims were brought to Medical City for treatment.

Bilaro said the suspect apparently had a previous record with QCPD wherein he shot two security guards who were supposed to take him for drug rehabilitation. One of the victims died and Abaya was charged with homicide in 2012. Erika Sauler/Philippine Daily Inquirer/SFM
