Iglesia members still looking for next protest location in Manila

As the rally permit granted to them by the Mandaluyong City government expired on Sunday and extended only up to Monday morning, members of the Iglesia ni Cristo are expected to move to the city of Manila to continue their protest against the supposed meddling of the Department of Justice (DOJ) in their internal affairs.

The exact location in Manila where they will continue their protest has yet to be decided upon.

“Wala pa pong detalye. Pinag-uusapan pa (There are no details yet as to the next location of the protest. It is still being discussed),” INC spokesman Edwil Zabala told the INQUIRER.net Monday morning in a text message.

Manila, which is led by its mayor, former President Joseph Ejercito Estrada, has granted the INC a rally permit until Friday, Sept. 4.

Police have placed the number of protesters on Edsa at 16,000 as of 11 p.m. Sunday, which paralyzed traffic on the stretch of Edsa from Orense in Makati to Ortigas in Mandaluyong.

The INC launched the protest onThursday in front of the DOJ office in Padre Faura, Manila, demanding that the justice department stop its investigation of certain INC leaders accused of illegally detaining expelled minister Isaisa Samson Jr. and members of his family.   Aries Joseph Hegina/INQUIRER.net
