Signal No. 3 was raised over Batanes, Northern Cagayan, Babuyan and Calayan Group of Islands, as Typhoon “Ineng” (international name: Goni) closed in northern Luzon on Thursday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said at 11 a.m.
Ineng maintained its strength of 180 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 215 kph.
The rest of Cagayan, Apayao and Ilocos Norte were placed under Signal No. 2.
Signal No. 1 was raised in Isabela, Northern Aurora, Quirino, Ifugao, Mt. Province, Kalinga, Abra and Ilocos Sur.
Storm surges are possible in all areas under storm signals.
Ineng will enhance the southwest monsoon or habagat in Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region and Western Visayas.
The typhoon was last observed 375 km east of Calayan, Cagayan.
