The manhunt against businessman Sandy de Guzman, tagged as mastermind in the killing of race car champion Enzo Pastor, continues despite his motion to recall the arrest warrant issued by the Quezon City court.
Chief Insp. Rodelio Marcelo, head of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit of Quezon City Police District, said the police would only stop the search if the court issued an order in De Guzman’s favor.
“(De Guzman’s motion) won’t stop us. The manhunt continues. Unless the judge resolves the motion in his favor,” Marcelo said.
Judge Luisito Cortez of Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 85, earlier issued an arrest warrant against De Guzman in an omnibus order that also denied his motion for judicial determination of probable cause.
De Guzman contested the dismissal, saying the court erred in finding probable cause based on hearsay evidence.
Marcelo said the National Bureau of Investigation and the PNP-CIDG have also been looking for De Guzman.
Marcelo said that as of Wednesday, the police believed De Guzman was still in the country as there was no record yet of him leaving. Erika Sauler, Philippine Daily Inquirer
