Close to 200 students from leading Philippine high schools attended EducationUSA Homecoming, a daylong series of activities to promote American higher education to young Filipinos.
CAMP (College Admissions Mentors for Peers) Philippines and Kaya Collaborative students attending US universities guided participants through the process of applying to American universities and discussed American college culture.
EducationUSA advisors talked about educational advising services in the Philippines and provided information on obtaining student visas and scholarships.
In his welcome remarks, US Ambassador Philip Goldberg, a graduate of Boston University, said higher education in the US was the best in the world because it offered students a vast array of opportunities that could advance real world careers.
The ambassador said that over 800,000 international students in US institutions last year enriched American campuses and helped create global classrooms reflective of a global society. He encouraged students to take advantage of advising services offered by EducationUSA at the embassy and at the Philippine-American Educational Foundation.
