ILOILO CITY, Philippines — The National Commission on Indigenous Peoples resolved on Tuesday night to issue a Certificate of Pre-Condition allowing the construction of the P11.2-billion Jalaur River megadam in Calinog town in Iloilo, provincial legal officer Dennis Ventilacion, who attended the deliberation, said on Tuesday.
This was one major requirement for the start of the procurement process and construction activities, said Gerardo Corsiga, National Irrigation Administration regional manager.
The project is being opposed by a group of indigenous peoples due to environmental and safety concerns. SFM
