Student pilot unhurt after botched landing of plane in Clark

MANILA, Philippines — A student pilot came out unscathed Tuesday morning from a botched landing of the small plane she was flying.

According to a report from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), Emily Esguerra was unhurt after the Cessna trainer aircraft she was flying solo was damaged as it landed at around 10 a.m., Tuesday, at the Clark Civil Aviation Complex.

CAAP spokesperson Eric Apolonio said that Esguerra, a student of the Clark Airbase, Pampanga-based Omni Aviation Corp, “failed to level off her landing aim point at the runway.”

Apolonio explained that an aircraft would usually land with its nose up and the rear portion of the plane touching the ground first.

“In this case the student pilot landed the plane with the nose and rear of the aircraft almost level. This caused the propeller of the aircraft to be damaged,” he said.

When Esguerra finally touched down, she had to undergo a medical checkup to make sure she had not suffered any injuries. She was later cleared by doctors. SFM
