The police are facing a blank wall in Wednesday’s killing of an official of Makati City’s social welfare department (MSWD).

Supt. Daniel Oamil, Makati’s deputy chief of police for operations, said that they were still checking all possible motives behind the murder of 52-year-old Mila Dumaguit, officer in charge of MSWD’s logistics and finance management services.

Initial investigation showed that Dumaguit had just left her house and boarded a government vehicle to report to city hall at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday when two men on a motorcycle started shooting at her and her driver, June del Pilar, also an MSWD employee.

Dumaguit and Del Pilar sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were taken to Ospital ng Makati.

Dumaguit, however, was declared dead on arrival. At press time, Del Pilar was reported to be in critical condition.

The police said that the shooting was recorded by a closed circuit television camera near the crime scene—the corner of Tanay Street and Osmeña Highway in Barangay Valenzuela, Makati City.

However, they refused to divulge additional details about the results of their initial investigation.

Meanwhile, Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay Jr. ordered Makati police chief, Supt. Jaime Santos, to identify and arrest the perpetrators.

“I am saddened and shocked by the untimely death of Mila. I sincerely convey my prayers and condolences to her bereaved family. She does not deserve to leave us this way,” he said in a statement.

City administrator and MSWD chief Marjorie de Veyra, Dumaguit’s immediate superior, said that she lost a very dependable coworker.

“In all the years that I [knew] her, she proved to be very efficient and dependable. She truly cared for the people of Makati. I know I speak for all her coworkers at City Hall when I say I truly hope that she will be given justice,” De Veyra said.
