Now that President Benigno Aquino III has finally named Interior Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II as his “anointed one,” what does Roxas’ wife, broadcaster Korina Sanchez has to say?

“It’s so important to have the President’s endorsement because he knows who to choose. Ang masasabi ko lang maganda ang taste ni P-Noy (Aquino),” Sanchez told reporters after the Interior secretary said on Friday he was accepting the challenge to run for presidency in 2016.

In a Liberal Party event called “A Gathering of Friends” at the historic Club Filipino in San Juan on Friday, Aquino endorsed Roxas as the standard-bearer of the ruling party, saying he’s assured of Roxas’ capability and desire to continue the “Daang Matuwid” (straight path).

After Aquino, an emotional Roxas delivered his acceptance speech. Roxas started tearing up when he said his presidential run would be his way of continuing the legacy of his grandfather former President Manuel Roxas, father Gerardo “Gerry” Roxas and brother Gerardo “Dinggoy” Roxas Jr.

“We never thought we lost the government’s support. He’s a Liberal Party stalwart. He has always beside P-Noy in everything P-Noy does. Now that we have the actual appointment of the President, sabi ni Mar, parang nanalo na rin ako (Mar said it’s like he won already),” Sanchez said.

The wait for Aquino’s endorsement, according to her, has been “really emotional” for them.

“Alam ko ang pinagdadaanan ni Mar, pinagdadaananan ng Pangulo (I know what Mar and the President are going through) and to come to this point is something really emotional for all of us,” she said.

But from the start, Roxas’ wife said they knew the President’s choice was always Mar, owing it to their “positive thinking.”  She said they both know that Mar was the most deserving candidate.

“Kapag nagkakatinginan kami, sinasabi namin alam ni P-Noy kung sino ang nararapat at kaming dalawa, alam naaming siya ang nararapat. So siguro, ito positive thinking effective nga,” she said.

(When Mar and I look each other in the eye, we tell each other that P-Noy knows who deserves his endorsement, and we both know that is he. So positive thinking is really effective.) IDL
