Remains of last missing miner in Semirara accident recovered

SEMIRARA ISLAND, Antique, Philippines — The municipality of Caluya and the Semirara Mining and Power Corp. (SMPC) on Wednesday officially declared the last missing worker in Friday’s mine pit accident on Semirara Island in Antique a fatality.

The lower limb of Danilo Bayhon, 56, a foreman, was discovered, recovered and identified early Wednesday, according to a statement released by the Caluya municipal information office. He was then declared the ninth fatality in the July 17 collapse of part of the northern Panian pit.

But search and retrieval operations were still continuing, according to the SMPC.
