SEMIRARA ISLAND, Antique—Six persons were injured when a glass door of a shopping mall in Antique was shattered after fans pushed their way to watch a performance of movie-TV actress Maja Salvador.
All the injured suffered minor cuts and were treated by emergency personnel deployed at the Robinsons Place Antique in the capital town of San Jose, according to Supt. Norby Escobar, chief of the San Jose police station.
Escobar said the injured were among at least 3,000 fans and mall goers who watched the performance at the activity area of the mall, which opened on July 15.
The glass doors were closed by mall security guards because the crowd had already exceeded the capacity of the activity area.
Shortly before 12:42 p.m., a mall guard opened one side of the glass door slightly to allow an elderly woman in because she was already pinned to the door by the jostling crowd.
But when the door was opened, the crowd outside the mall pushed their way in shattering one side of the glass door, according to Escobar.
