JOHOR BARU — A 28-year-old woman died of dengue fever three days after giving birth here.

She and two others – a 35-year-old Bangladeshi man and an 11-year-old girl – were the latest casualties of the deadly fever in the city.

State health and environment exco chairman, Datuk Ayub Rahmat, said from the 14 deaths from dengue this year, eight were from Johor Baru, making the city the highest in the number of dengue cases compared to other districts.

The victims were from Taman Kobena, Taman Desa Cemerlang and Taman Daya. They died between July 5 and 11.

Ayub pointed out that irresponsible residents who threw rubbish everywhere and into rivers have turned some areas into mosquito breeding grounds.

“Such actions have put themselves and other residents at risk of becoming the next victim,” he added.
