“This is your country. The youth will inherit all the good things and the bad things that their predecessors are doing,” Comelec chair Andres Bautista said during the first “Meet the Inquirer Multimedia” forum.

He said one of the advantages for the youth in participating in the elections is that they will not be swayed by issues such as vote buying.

“Dapat talagang makialam (They should participate). Looking at the demographics, people aged 18 to 30 constitutes 40 percent of the voters. It’s a key sector. And what is good about that sector is that issues such as vote buying is not as prevalent to them,” Bautista said.

“It is the duty of each and every voter to vote right. It is the responsibility of Comelec to count them,” he added.

According to the National Youth Commission, there were 16, 547, 307 registered voters aged 18 to 30 who participated in the 2013 elections. There were more registered male voters than females voters in the 2013 elections: 8,303, 589 males to 8, 243, 718 females.
