A 10-year-old boy was found dead at the swimming pool of the Mandarin Condominium in Binondo, Manila, on Wednesday.
The victim, named Wei Su Yan, was found dead in the condominium’s 7th floor swimming pool at 12:30 p.m. on July 1.
A report prepared by SPO2 Jonathan Bautista stated the boy just got home from school with the family maid when he decided to drop by the gym of the condominium, located on the 7th floor.
The maid tried to get the boy to go to their unit on the 12th floor, but the boy ignored her. Investigators said the boy might have been “too hyper.”
Bautista said the boy was last seen talking to someone in the gym before diving into the pool. A janitor later found the boy motionless in the pool at 1:09 p.m. The unnamed janitor called building security, who then brought the boy to the Metropolitan Hospital.
The boy was declared dead on arrival by Dr. Teresa San Juan. The boy’s parents refused to have his body examined. No charges were filed against the building’s security personnel.
Police said the househelper called the boy’s parents twice, first to inform the parents that the boy was in the gym and second was to tell them the boy didn’t listen to her when she asked him to go to their unit. The maid was then told to pick up a few things from the store.
