Thieves hit Caloocan public works contractor
A public works contractor installing street lamps for the Caloocan City government lost a hydraulic jackhammer allegedly to thieves who pretended to be construction workers before dawn Tuesday.
The jackhammer, worth around P546,000, was last seen being picked up by seven men who arrived around 4 a.m. at the workers’ barracks on A. Mabini Street in front of Caloocan City Medical Center.
The police learned from a witness that the men all wore green shirts and arrived in a multicab vehicle. A driver of the Quezon City-based Aylan Construction & Trading has filed a complaint in the local police on behalf of the contractor, which was installing street lights from Sangandaan to Maypajo.
A similar theft was reported in Quezon City last month, when an air compressor and jackhammer were stolen from a crew doing road repairs.–Rima Granali and Veronica Roque
